Secured tightening through Smart Tool integration
Working with smart tools for your tightening operations is critical for the correct assembly, safety and performance of the equipment. This implies that applying the correct torque measure is very important. Therefore, smart tools allow fasteners to be tightened to the correct tension. Furthermore, these tools prevent over-tightening or joints coming apart, as they measure the amount of pressure being applied to fasteners in accordance to the specifications.
Often it is critical that operators follow a pattern for tightening, such as cross-wise sequence of tightening multiple bolts, or tightening the same nut with 2 different torque levels. Although the tool has already torque levels with corresponding specifications configured, the operator can still make errors by using the wrong fastener or applying the wrong sequence. This can lead to major issues regarding safety and/or quality.
The Arkite Local Positioning of Smart Tools will support the operator in tightening fasteners in the correct sequence at the correct location with the specified torque levels. The operator will be guided by augmented reality projections on the specific fastener which should be tightened. At the same time, the Arkite 3D Sensor will validate the action of the operator and will allow or block the tool to operate. If the operator tries to use his tool in the wrong location or at the wrong time according to the SOP, Arkite will disable the tool.
Arkite’s Operator Guidance platform is open to integrate multiple tool vendors and is using standard protocols, such as Open Protocol, Modbus TCP, OPC Server and many others. Multiple parameters can be sent back and forth between the smart tool and the Arkite platform. As an example the actual torque level can be projected on the workbench or product, showing the operator he has done a perfect job by reaching a torque within specification. By integrating smart tools with the Arkite platform , manufacturers can eliminate human error in their tightening operations.
