Our customer, Brandt, is a renowned manufacturer specializing in complex control systems, including the intricate Dietrich controller. Given the complexity of their products, Brandt required a solution that would streamline assembly processes, reduce training time, and ensure high-quality output.

The Challenge
Brandt faced significant challenges due to the complexity of assembling the Dietrich controller, which involves numerous components and precise assembly steps. Traditional methods led to prolonged training times, frequent errors, and inconsistent quality control, hindering production efficiency.

Arkite’s Solution
To address these challenges, Brandt integrated Arkite’s Operator Guidance Platform into their assembly process. The workstation setup included Arkite’s 3D sensor, projector, and industrial PC, providing real-time augmented reality (AR) guidance and validation of manual operations.

Implementation Process

  1. Workstation Setup: Collaborating with Clé de 13, Brandt developed a custom workstation optimized for ergonomics and integrated with Arkite’s technology.
  2. Process Configuration: Brandt provided Arkite with the Dietrich controller assembly diagrams, which were used to create detailed digital work instructions.
  3. Quality Control Integration: The AR projections guided operators through each step, while the system’s 3D sensor validated correct execution, ensuring high precision and minimizing errors.
  4. Continuous Improvement: Arkite’s after-sales support facilitated ongoing refinements, allowing Brandt to adapt the system to evolving production needs.

Key Benefits

  • Enhanced Operator Guidance: AR projections clearly indicated each assembly step, reducing the cognitive load on operators and eliminating the need for constant supervision.
  • Improved Quality Control: The system automatically detected compliance and non-compliance, ensuring consistent quality without relying on subjective human judgment.
  • Reduced Training Time: New operators were quickly brought up to speed, with training time significantly decreased, allowing for a more flexible workforce.
  • Error Reduction: The platform’s real-time validation minimized assembly errors, leading to higher product reliability and reduced rework.

Results

  • Productivity Increase: Operators experienced smoother workflows, leading to faster assembly times.
  • Quality Enhancement: The rate of assembly errors dropped dramatically, ensuring superior product quality.
  • Training Efficiency: Training times were halved, enabling rapid onboarding of new employees.

Conclusion
The integration of Arkite’s Operator Guidance Platform into Brandt’s assembly line for the Dietrich controller has proven transformative. The combination of real-time AR guidance, automated validation, and ergonomic workstation design not only improved production efficiency and quality but also created a more engaging and supportive work environment for operators. Encouraged by these results, Brandt plans to expand the use of Arkite’s technology across other assembly processes in the near future.
